Cashflow Forecasting
Cashflow forecasting estimates the money entering (inflows) and leaving (outflows) a business’s bank accounts over a future period, typically 12 months, helping to predict potential cash shortages or surpluses.
Profit is always a potential, whereas cash is the reality you pay wages, suppliers and tax bills with.
Cashflow forecasting is how directors stay in control, especially when you’re growing, investing, dealing with seasonality, or just tired of the ‘We’ll be fine… I think’ feeling.
FWD builds cashflow forecasting as a practical decision tool, not a spreadsheet exercise.
The point isn’t to predict the future. It’s to make the next 30/60/90 days visible enough that you can take action early: accelerate invoices, slow discretionary spend, plan VAT and PAYE dates, or decide whether a hire is safe.

Guiding hand
Are you profitable on paper but tight on cash?

Cashflow is king
At its simplest, a forecast tracks expected cash in and cash out by week or month, using your real trading patterns: customer payment terms, supplier cycles, payroll dates, VAT quarters, loan repayments, and the tax calendar.
For many owner-managed businesses, just seeing those ‘lumpy’ moments clearly changes behaviour, and reduces stress.
Where forecasting becomes genuinely powerful is scenario planning.
What happens if sales slip 10% for two months? If a major client pays late? If you take on a new lease? If you recruit earlier than planned? A good forecast lets you test decisions before you commit to them.
This type of forward-looking support is in our more advanced, Insight-led service, which includes cash flow management and forecasting alongside regular financial reviews and management accounts.
If you’ve ever been profitable on paper but tight on cash, forecasting is the best fix.
