A fantastic promotion day at the Haberden: a moment to remember

Some Saturdays are just special. Last weekend was one of them.

Bury St Edmunds Rugby Union Football Club’s Men’s First XV secured promotion to National League 1 with a 95–28 victory over Old Albanians – and the atmosphere at the Haberden reflected exactly what that result meant.

We hosted colleagues and clients at the ground, at the FWD 1974 Suite, and had a brilliant day. A great turnout in the stands too, brilliant company, and the kind of afternoon that reminds you why sport at this level matters so much to a community.

A result that reflects a season’s worth of hard work

A promotion-winning scoreline like 95–28 doesn’t happen by accident. It reflects the hard work, commitment and consistency that the Men’s 1st XV have put in across a long – and at times testing – season.

Promotion to National League 1 means the Wolfpack are now just two divisions below the Premiership. That’s a remarkable achievement, and one that’s been earned properly.

The celebrations didn’t stop there either. The Men’s 2nd XV Wolfhounds also won promotion on the same day, and the Women’s and Youth teams continue to build serious momentum. This is a club firing on all cylinders, and it shows.

As proud sponsors of Bury St Edmunds RFC, we were delighted to host guests in the FWD-sponsored 1974 Suite for the occasion. Brilliant views over the pitch, sunshine, and a scoreline that just kept building. It was great to have Will Stocking, Andy Connacher, Matt Freestone, Andrew Ross, Justin Nevison-Grainger, Gary W., James Wood, Frank and Tiffany Pettitt, and Tim and Lucy Durrant with us to share the afternoon. The kind of day that’s hard to top.

Why this partnership matters to us

Sponsorship can sometimes feel transactional. This one doesn’t.

Bury St Edmunds RFC is more than a rugby club. It’s a genuine community;  one that brings people together across age groups, backgrounds and levels of the game, and has done for a long time.

For a business like ours, which is rooted in Suffolk and works closely with the people and businesses that make this area what it is, being part of that community feels right.

Moments like last Saturday are exactly what make the partnership meaningful. It’s not just about a logo on a shirt or a suite with our name on it. It’s about being present for the big moments, supporting something genuinely worthwhile, and celebrating alongside the people who’ve made it happen.
